The Best Anti-Aging Treatments That Actually Work: Part 1

By Shannon Campbell.

Growing older presents some difficulties for everyone, and one of the biggest issues for men and women is how the aging process can take a toll on our physical appearance. There is beauty in aging, but also some unsightly side-effects that people will do anything to prevent.

That’s why anti-aging treatments are so popular and have been sought after by humans since the beginning of time. But not all of these treatments work - the beauty industry has some of the highest rates of ‘snake oil’ products of all industries. i.e, it looks impressive but doesn’t do a thing.

But certain anti-aging treatments are the real deal! We’re going to cover the best treatments that work, so you aren’t throwing your money down the drain.

Dermal Fillers

Filler injections have been available for years now. Traditionally dermal fillers used collagen to treat aging skin, these days most use hyaluronic acid. These gel-like substances are injected beneath the skin to make it appear smoother and more voluminous. It can also soften and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Fillers are FDA-approved and 100% safe, as long as you are being treated by a qualified and experienced practitioner. The effects are not permanent, however, and periodic treatment is required to maintain results.

2. Microdermabrasion

This treatment involves the use of an instrument to gently exfoliate the skin, removing the top layer of dead skin to rejuvenate your skin tone and complexion. The new layer of skin is more bright and youthful-looking, and the process can even remove age spots, dark spots, and scarring.

To see the full anti-aging effects of microdermabrasion, you will need to get multiple treatments, and anywhere between 5-16 treatments may be required before the best results are seen.

3. LED Light Therapy

Light therapy is a subset of photodynamic therapy, where the skin absorbs varying wavelengths of light that trigger intracellular reactions. These reactions caused by red and infrared light can help to resolve various skin issues including fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and other pigmentation issues. Blue light can also be used to treat acne and prevent breakouts.

The procedure is 100% safe for use, with minimal to zero side effects. It is likely not going to remove all wrinkles, fine lines, and other skiing-aging issues, but will be very effective when combined with other forms of skin treatment. For a great example of an at-home skin device that uses light therapy, take a look at the EvenSkyn® Lumo, a premium anti-aging device.

4. Microneedling

Microneedling is a form of collagen induction therapy, meaning that it stimulates the production of collagen in order to rejuvenate the skin and address skin concerns including wrinkles and fine lines.

It used tiny ‘micro’ needles to puncture the skin, causing minor trauma that forces the derma (deeper layers) to begin repairing itself with the use of collagen. As the tissue is remodeled, the skin becomes smoother and tighter, and the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines is significantly reduced.

Though it can sound a little scary, microneedling is harmless. It’s been a mainstay of anti-aging treatments for years, and results have been well-observed.

5. IPL

You probably know this treatment best as a hair removal solution, but did you know that IPL can also be used for skin rejuvenation? That’s right, Intense Pulsed Light machines can be used to target many of the worst signs of aging, including dark spots, age spots, spider veins, and sun damage.

That’s because the light that is used to penetrate the dermis converts into heat, which can stimulate cell turnover and collagen production when the right wavelengths are used.

These five treatments are just some of the best and most effective anti-aging procedures on the market. If you’d like to find more, look out for part two of the best anti-aging treatments that actually work!
